Le Nozze di Figaro by MOZART explores the mechanisms of desire a the Opera...

Figaro and Susanna are getting married. Love is in the air, but not only the happy couple are showing signs of impatience. The Count appears to be more interested in Susanna than in his Countess. Marcellina wants Figaro. Cherubino is shooting love arrows at every woman he comes across. Desire lurks behind every door, and the most curious misunderstandings bring everything to a head. Who will marry whom? Whose love is sincere and true?

This version of Le Nozze di Figaro is both serious and comical. Ole Anders Tandberg explores the intricate mechanisms of desire in a present-day hotel setting. What lies behind these explosive bouts of passion? Why do we desire the things we desire? Are we nothing more than interchangeable objects of love? The people in Mozart’s opera are both deeply human and hilariously over the top.
