The end is near for Violetta Valéry. Her body is ravaged by tuberculosis. She takes every day as if it is her last, and she spends her nights in an intoxicated daze. Double standards and bigotry stand in the way of love. Soon, Violetta has no alternative but to meet her fate.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear court singer Elin Rombo in one of opera history’s most iconic roles. La traviata premiered in Paris in 1853 and is one of Verdi’s most popular works. Ellen Lamm’s and Magdalena Åberg’s interpretation of the opera, which focuses on political oppression and duplicity, first premiered in 2019. When the production now returns on the repertoire, the principal parts are sung by Elin Rombo and Joel Annmo, last seen on the Main Stage as the lovers Candide and Cunegonde in Candide in the autumn of 2021. The Royal Swedish Orchestra is led by Daniele Callegari, who will also be conducting La traviata at the Metropolitan in New York shortly afterwards.
