Cinderella is washed up alone in the port of Stockholm. She is immediately brought to an orphanage where she ends up at the bottom of the pecking order. The Cook, the Cleaner and the friendly Janitor become her friends. When all the children from the orphanage are invited to the prince’s birthday ball at the palace, Cinderella is prevented from joining them as her dance style is too bold and explosive. But then her friends come to her aid – Cinderella must go! Will she get there in time? And will she be reunited with her long lost family?
Cinderella was first performed by the Bolshoi Ballet in 1945. This reinterpretation has been created exclusively for the Royal Swedish Ballet by Tamara Rojo, artistic director at the English National Ballet. Colourful costumes designed by fashion designer Christian Lacroix and Prokofiev’s well-known music vouch for an evening that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
After the premiere of Rojo’s production in 2022, Aftonbladet wrote that «each garment, hairstyle and hat is a piece of art in itself».
