»Sensational breakthrough in Aida at the Royal Swedish Opera«
Can love conquer all? A country ravaged by armed conflict, religious wars and power struggles is on the verge of collapse. Aida is a young prisoner of war who finds herself torn between two warring parties. Against all reason, she falls in love with Radamès. We watch the doomed, relentless love between two young people pitted against a chaotic world. Aida premiered in Cairo in 1871 and is one of Giuseppe Verdi’s all-time successes.
Michael Cavanagh’s intense new interpretation of the classic opera Aida, featuring Christina Nilsson, focuses on the inner turmoil that torments the heroic, but vulnerable characters. The premiere in 2018 was a major success. Svenska Dagbladet found it was »pure joy«, and Dagens Nyheter that it would be »hard to imagine a more dynamic and more vital Aida«. It was in this production that Christina Nilsson made her debut at the Royal Swedish Opera main stage to great acclaim. »This is a major breakthrough«, wrote SvD after the premiere.
